#5 Bangladesh Massacre & The Power of Fake News
Yesterday, October 17, 2021, I had published a podcast episode called Beyond Fortellings. In that episode, I had told about the fiction that overtakes reality. The words I said became true when the Bangladesh religious massacre took place yesterday. An image that depicted something that disrespects the Quran was the cause of the entire problem. That fake news spreads faster than reality. The Muslims to take weapons against minority Hindus in Bangladesh, and killed at least 6 people across the country. The riot has raised concerns about Bangladesh’s communal peace. But the Government under the leadership of Bangladesh PM Shiekh Hasina had taken mandatory measures to avoid further attacks. The PM also called the nation to believe in factually certified facts rather than believing and acting against fake news. Religion is an evergreen sensitive matter, and even a word against can cost the blood of lots of innocents. So here, I would like to raise two key questions regarding my concerns. Should we allow religion and such kinda fiction to overtake us? How can we prevent the spreading of fake news, and thereby securing our peaceful social system? My opinion is straight and clear - Religion is not at all important for our daily hood. I’m an atheist. I don’t believe in the existence of supernatural power. So if atheism grows, prosperity arrives. but everything has both pros and cons. With a lot of benefits and a good majority of good people, atheism also has a minority of bad ones. But we cannot purify anything without a single speck of dirt. The reason why atheism is beneficial is simply because of its acceleration of quality of living, and the personal freedom that one enjoys. The answer to the second question of how to prevent fake news is quite simple - don’t believe and share the information that you are not sure about. So if no one shares such things, there won’t be riots. The Bangladesh massacre is the best example of religious sensitivity, and the spread of fake news, and about people killing and dying for just a piece of fiction. The only way to avoid such monstrous massacres is to express your opinion peacefully. If one thinks religion is for peace, then why should he or she kill others, and spread hatred? Share the post, if you think it’s worth sharing. Thank you for hearing the podcast. See you the next day, with another interesting and valuable topic.
