A few great newsletter resources for you

Ever since I started Not a Newsletter, there are four questions I get pretty much every week. (Maybe you’ve been meaning to ask these questions, too!) So let me take a minute to share a few answers:

1.) What tests should I run on my newsletter?
Start with a simple A/B test on your subject lines. Pick an idea to test — long vs. short, with emojis or without, funny vs. straightforward — and try it for a few weeks. And make sure you use this Subject Line + Preheader Calculator — a tool I built for Not a Newsletter readers — to make sure your subject lines fit across all devices!

2.) How do I grow my lists?
From newsletter sign-up pages to pop-ups to paid acquisition, there are lots of good ways to grow your lists. I built this list of 25 growth opportunities for you — I think you’ll find a few ideas in here you can start using today!

3.) What's the right email service provider for me? I wrote a guide to some of the biggest ESPs, talking you through what they do well (features, integrations), what they do poorly, and what they cost. You can read through the guide here.

4.) Where else should I turn for email inspiration?
What, Not a Newsletter isn’t enough? ;-)

There are a lot of wonderful resources I personally turn to for insights, ideas, and inspiration. Here are some of my favorites:

• If you’re looking for a great weekly newsletter full of email ideas, I’d say: Sign up for the Really Good Emails newsletter. They share design ideas and links that’ll help you make your newsletters better.
• If you’re looking for a podcast about email, check out Litmus’s Delivering or ConvertKit’s Deliverability Defined. Both do a great job of diving into big topics and interviewing experts in the world of email.
• If you really want to dive deep into newsletters, check out the Email Geeks Slack room. It’s full of smart folks talking email all day long.
