Join us Thursday, November 18, at 7 p.m. EST for Gather in Poems, a special reading and offering of community from the Academy of American Poets Board of Chancellors. Poets will share their own work, as well as works by other poets that inspire them, on the theme of coming together.

Now Accepting Applications for the Literary Arts Emergency Fund 

The application portal for the second round of the Literary Arts Emergency Fund, administered by the Academy of American Poets, the Community of Literary Magazines & Presses, and the National Book Foundation, is now open to nonprofit literary organizations and publishers experiencing continued financial losses due to COVID-19. Applications will be accepted online until January 5, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. EST. Learn more and apply here.

Open Call for Applications for the Inaugural
Guggenheim Poet-in-Residence Position

 
The Guggenheim Museum, in collaboration with the Academy of American Poets, has established a year-long poet-in-residence position open to a contemporary poet with a strong interest in public engagement beginning in January 2022. Upcoming Deadline for High School Students: Submit to the 2022 National Poetry Month Poster Contest by November 15

The Academy of American Poets invites students living in the United States, U.S. Territories, or Tribal Nations who are in grades 9 through 12 to enter artwork to be considered for the National Poetry Month poster in 2022. The winner will be selected by co-judges Rafael López, New York Times-bestselling illustrator and artist, and Nikki GrimesNew York Times-bestselling author and poet. The winning student’s artwork will be featured on the official National Poetry Month poster in 2022, which will be distributed to classrooms, libraries, bookstores, community centers, families, and individuals nationwide in time for the April celebration. The deadline to submit is November 15, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. EST.


There is Still Time to Submit to the Treehouse Climate Action Poem Prize 

The Treehouse Climate Action Poem Prize is given to honor exceptional poems that help make real for readers the gravity of the vulnerable state of our environment at present.  The judges are Dr. Mustafa Santiago Ali and Alexis Pauline Gumbs. Submissions will be accepted until Monday, November 15, 2021.
