Biden administration to tap oil reserves in bid to tamp down rising gas prices.
NBC News (Moderate Left) • Factual Grade 85% • 5 min read

The Department of Energy will make available 50 million barrels of oil to lower prices. Of the 50 million barrels, 32 million will be returned to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve over the next three years on the assumption that prices go down in the future, and 18 million will come from a sale approved by Congress in the 2018 budget.
    ...
[The Strategic Petroleum Reserve holds] 620 million barrels of crude oil, the world's largest emergency supply. While the stockpile is typically reserved for emergencies, the administration has broad authority to conduct oil exchanges — releases that are repaid to the stockpile.
    ...
The release of the oil reserves should quickly translate into lower prices at the pump, and officials will be watching to make sure energy companies are passing along lower oil prices to consumers, a senior administration official said. The decision was made jointly with other major energy-consuming countries to curb increasing energy prices after oil-rich nations rejected repeated calls to increase production.

Should someone charged with a violent offense be held without bail?

463 votes, 54 comments

Context: Wisconsin parade attacker had recently posted bail for a violent crime.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - The purpose of bail is to guarantee the accused person to return to court. It is not an absolute right. You can be denied bail due to being a flight risk or being a potential menace to society. Violent offenders should be held to make sure they are no longer a threat to anyone else in society before being released.

Unsure - As always, a “one size fits all” mentality does not necessarily work. Was it a drunken fist fight in a bar? Probably best to let a person dry out overnight and then go home....

No - I don't think we should consider any category in a blanket "hold without bail". Risk to society and flight ri...
