Jury finds three men guilty in killing of Ahmaud Arbery.
Salon (Left) • Factual Grade 86% • 4 min read

Brian McMichael, 65, and his son Travis, 35, both white, each faced nine charges, which include "one count of malice murder, four counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, one count of false imprisonment and one count of criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment."
    ...
The case centers on an incident from May 2020, when the McMichaels [along with neighbor William Bryan] grabbed guns and followed Arbery throughout their neighborhood in Georgia allegedly under the assumption that Arbery was the perpetrator of several break-ins within the area. Defense attorney Laura Hogue argued that Arbery escalated the conflict.
    ...
Prosecutor Linda Dunikoski said that the three men had established an atmosphere for violence, nullifying their right to self-defense. Critics of the trial have said that the defense attorneys engaged in a number of racist tropes, which may have impacted the jury's decision.
  1. Different political viewpoint
Ahmaud Arbery's alleged murderers almost escaped charges, thanks to prosecutorial misconduct.

Should the US tap into its oil reserves to bring down gas prices?

437 votes, 67 comments

Context: President Biden orders the release of 50M barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

No - This is a very temporary fix that likely will not have time to really impact prices at the pump, and leaves us with less oil on hand in case of an emergency. It's also all well and good to say we're shifting to renewables, but that's going to take decades to accomplish. In the interim, we should support domestic production and incentivize our refineries to switch to the light sweet crude that American oil and gas companies produce. Right now, they're dependent on foreign sources of oil that want to price gouge America.

Unsure - It seems the government is trying to extend the purchasing power of the money Americans have to spend. This means doing what they can to lower gas prices and therefore the cos...
