Hi Sifted Reader,

UK tech companies raised a whopping £26bn this year — and that's not including a flurry of funding that startups kept quiet about. But never fear, Sifted has found out which UK companies received the biggest unannounced rounds of 2021. Also in today's issue:
  • The Supercell founder changing cinema
  • Germany's largest healthtech Series A
  • Sifted Summit: the highlights

\Entertainment

The Supercell founder has a high-tech movie studio in Finland

In a secret location not too far from Helsinki airport, Mikko Kodisoja, the famed cofounder of Finnish gaming studio Supercell, invited Sifted to check out his movie studio Fireframe.

The cinema technology is next level, leaving green screens totally obsolete. The special effects — similar to those used in Disney’s The Mandalorian — come from a giant semicircular LED wall which can project photorealistic visuals and can add special effects in real time, removing the need for post-production.

So why did Kodisoja make the bold jump from gaming into film making? And what opportunities does this advanced tech hold?

Eleanor Warnock took to the stage to find out.

Formel Skin connects patients with dermatological conditions like acne to doctors, who guide them through the entire medical process from booking an appointment to receiving treatment.

It's just raised €30m as pandemic-fuelled interest in telemedicine continue to grow and regulations on digital health in Germany are relaxed.

Formel Skin believes it's fixing a market in which patients with chronic skin conditions typically fail to receive adequate treatment. But how?

Miriam Partington gets the intel from the startup's founding team.
