In Europe’s war for tech talent, are visas the answer?

The key to a successful listing, from a founder who’s done it

Going public requires preparation. You need to set up investor relations, work out the governance structure and decide what type of listing you're going to go for.

How should a founder choose between an IPO or a SPAC? And how can they get their business ready in the meantime?

Jeroen van Glabbeek, founder of CM.com, shares his tips.

News That Matters

💰 Monzo, one of Britain’s first digital banks, has closed a $500m round at an increased valuation of $4.5bn. It will be a sigh of relief for the fintech, which suffered a series of setbacks over the past year.

🤑 Iris Ventures, a new Barcelona-based investment firm, has just announced a €100m fund to invest in European consumer brands. Sifted's Tim Smith chatted to them about their investment thesis.

🖥️ Quantum Computing. Researchers in Finland have unveiled a new type of microwave controller that solves one of the big obstacles to scaling up quantum computers to the size where they can be usable.

🛍️ Easol, an ecommerce platform for businesses selling experiences, has just raised $25m in a Series A round led by Tiger Global. It’s the 29th European startup the US VC giant has backed this year, and it also gives a good indication of investor willingness to back events and travel tech.

🇩🇰 Danish startup Pleo, which develops expense management tools aimed at small and medium-sized businesses, has raised a $200m round, giving in a $4.7bn valuation.

Sifted Suggests

💸What does it really mean when a VC asks for your pitch deck? Deciphering investor feedback is hard. Anthony Rose, cofounder of SeedLegals, talks through how to interrupt it.

💰Diversity in VC. Atomico's State of European Tech report came out this week, showing that Europe is still lagging behind on diversity. This piece from Fiona Pathiraja at Crista Galli Ventures looks at what can be done.

🤖Nordic AI. Silo has released a report giving a comprehensive overview of the Nordic AI market, where there are over 24,000 organisations working with the tech.
