How To Craft The Perfect To-Do List | Ivanka Trump’s Insider Apartment Discounts | Rihanna Nabs More Funding For Savage X Fenty | And More

From Russian military drills that have stoked geopolitical uncertainty to the ‘bomb cyclone’ heading towards New England, I think it’s fair to say that this has been a doozy of a news week. Of course, the two biggest stories I’m watching are a little closer to home: the markets, which are roiling, and the Supreme Court.

While a bevy of factors have contributed to stocks flirting with correction territory—including fears over inflation and the
actions the Federal Reserve could take in response—I’m going to re-up the advice I like to repeat every time the CNBC stock chart screams red: don’t panic. Day-to-day drops are always scary, but if you have a long-term financial plan, stick to that plan—and don’t try to time the market.

Then, of course, we have the news that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer will
retire at the end of the court’s term this summer, paving the way for President Joe Biden to make good on his campaign promise to place a Black woman on the bench. As my colleague Alison Durkee reports here, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and California Supreme Court Justice Leondra R. Kruger are widely viewed as the primary contenders—though other names being floated include Judges Tiffany Cunningham, Candace Jackson-Akiwumi and Eunice Lee, as well as NAACP Legal Defense Fund President Sherrilyn Ifill.

The process of confirming a new Justice has, of course, not yet begun, but we’ll be watching closely, and bringing you updates as they happen.

Cheers!
Maggie

P.S.: I buried the lede, because victory goes to those who do the reading… you’ve asked, and now I can finally answer: nominations for the
2022 Forbes 50 Over 50 are officially open! The submissions page went live this morning, so head on over and nominate yourself or an over-50 woman you admire. Full submissions guidelines are here but the biggest rule is this: candidates must have been born by or before December 31, 1971. Folks born in ‘72 or later are, I’m sorry to report, too young to qualify!
