“The most important lesson is how little we truly understand about Earth’s systems.”

In southern Arizona, an extraordinary science experiment called Biosphere 2 is taking place. Scientists living inside this massive hermetically sealed structure are working to recreate Earth’s systems — and sustain themselves on the results. In this cinematic tour for CreativeMornings/Tucson, Biosphere 2’s Deputy Director John Adams explains that their initial premise was to develop the knowledge and technology to create habitable environments on the moon and eventually Mars. Now, Biosphere 2 has become an opportunity to investigate how systems will respond to global climate change by altering different variables, a true accelerator for Earth sciences. Watch John Adams’ look inside Biosphere 2 and be humbled by the interconnectedness and complexity of life on Earth.
