“I am waiting in the hallway outside of the next chapter of my life.”

What do you see at the thresholds of your life? After a health scare, artist Nicoletta Daríta de la Brown had a startling vision of her future self sitting in a hallway. She began to show up for that version of herself by plying herself with little luxuries, taking inventory of who has access to her attention, and sitting in stillness to hear her own thoughts. “The universe whispers to us all the time,” she explains, “but when you're quiet is when you can hear the messages clearly.” Listen to de la Brown’s talk for CreativeMornings/Baltimore, in all its irreverence and wisdom, and be prepared to meet the future versions of you.

Nicoletta Daríta de la Brown is an award-winning performance artist, sculptor, filmmaker, and mother of four. She is Black Latinx and proud to be a first-generation Panamanian born in the United States. She is a chamána (shaman) and comes from a long line of healers. Her work reconceives the life of an artist as thriving, nourishing herself and others during and through her creative practice.
