Paging Dr. Lesbian - I'm Going Paid!
Hello all. I thought I’d use this week’s Sunday Edition to explain to you why I’ve chosen to start a paid subscription option for this newsletter. First off, let me tell you how this will work. This newsletter will continue to have a free option, and this option means you will still get the Sunday Edition in your inbox every week. Paid subscriptions will start at $5 a month ($60 a year) and will get you access to both the Sunday Edition and mid-week dispatches from the lesbian internet. (Both of which you should have been receiving previously.) I’ll also be offering a founders tier wherein, if you’re feeling particularly generous, you can pay as much as you want (starting at $75 a year). This tier will give you all of the above benefits plus the ability to propose topics for future newsletters every once and a while. The reason I’m starting paid subscriptions is twofold. First, while I love writing this newsletter, doing it for free means I can’t spend as much time as I would like on it because I need to spend the rest of my time doing things that actually allow me to make money. By starting paid subscriptions I will hopefully be able to begin making enough revenue to focus more of my time on this newsletter. In addition, I would love to continue to expand the reach of Paging Dr. Lesbian by continuing to interview interesting creatives and maybe even collaborate with other writers in the future. Receiving more funding for my work would allow me to do these things. Secondly, I strongly believe that everyone should be compensated fairly for their labor, and I’ve come to realize that this philosophy should apply to my own work as well. While I love writing this newsletter and don’t consider it “work” in the tedious sense of the word, I want to put these values into practice and stake a claim regarding the value of my work and my voice. I hope you are able to stake similar claims in your own lives. If you aren’t able or don’t want to subscribe at this moment – no worries! I understand not wanting to add another subscription to your life. But, if you’ve enjoyed this newsletter so far and have gotten something from it, I hope you’ll consider beginning a paid subscription. It would mean a lot to me if you did, but either way, I thank you for your support in whichever way you’ve been able to give it thus far. If you’re ready to make the jump, you can start a paid subscription here. Thanks, Kira (aka Dr. Lesbian) You’re a free subscriber to Paging Dr. Lesbian.
