BLM-backed group posts bail for Louisville activist charged in attempted shooting of mayoral candidate.
Washington Examiner (Moderate Right) • Factual Grade 89% • 4 min read

Quintez Brown is accused of attempting to shoot Democratic mayoral candidate Craig Greenberg at his office Monday night before fleeing. Louisville Metro Police said no one was injured, though a bullet grazed Greenberg's clothing. While Greenberg has focused his campaign on tackling violent crime and vowing to hire more police, Brown wrote columns [for the Courier-Journal] focused on race and law enforcement.
    ...
The Louisville Community Bail Fund paid the $100,000 bond. Brown's attorney, Rob Eggert, is calling the incident a "mental health case." That view is shared by Chanelle Helm, the organizer of the Louisville BLM chapter and the co-founder of the Louisville bail organization.
    ...
“Quintez Brown's bond and release have been decided independently by a judge. Mr. Brown will be monitored by the Department of Corrections [...] via a GPS monitoring device and home checks. Alerts will notify [Home Incarceration Program] personnel if the device is tampered with or goes outside the geofence," Louisville's mayor said.

Should federal assistance be provided for homeowners affected by rising sea levels?

401 votes, 43 comments

Context: New report projects sea level on U.S. coastline will rise rapidly in next thirty years.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

No - Why should every local problem be paid for by the federal government and federal taxes? Flooding due to rising sea levels is a well-telegraphed problem, there have been ongoing warnings about it since at least the 1990s, and it affects only coastal states and cities. States and local jurisdictions should be responsible for any planning and costs due to often expensive homes for the wealthy being flooded on the disappearing coast. Landlocked citizens of the Midwest should not be forced to pay for the poor decisions and planning of coastal states causing their own long-term problems.
