Spain is a beloved destination owing to its warm weather that puts a smile on people’s faces, the delicious tapas culture that leaves tummies satisfied, and the conviviality with which people live. Spain also boasts a thriving and growing e-commerce sector that was valued at USD 27 bn in 2021 and it continues to bloom:

• Wellbeing, food, and sustainability are three pillars that represent Spanish culture as much as the current Spanish startup scene.

• Fashion, electronics, toys, and DIY are other prominent e-comm categories.

• Price is one of the main purchasing factors for Spaniards. Building trust in online transactions is key.

Let’s now take a look at some super promising startups we found in Spain:

🖨️ What could be the solve for manufacturing and distribution challenges in the food industry? Enter Foodini, a company that 3D prints your food. Foodini had launched a 3D printer which can turn raw ingredients into the food of your choice. This super cool project also received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020.

🥩 Heura Foods is offering 100% plant-based products in 100% Mediterranean style and has convinced the “meat-heavy” Spanish to try plant-based alternatives like slaughter-free chorizo. Heura is leading the plant-based 2.0 movement (1st first wave being plant-based foods that focused on delicious experiences but lacked nutrition) by adding 40% fewer ingredients than other plant-based products.

🍷 Giklive is making the wine business more fun by giving its customers choices around the color of wine (pink, blue, red), besides choices around whether spice and flavours like tea. How does the idea of a spicy blue wine sound?

🎨🖌️ Taruga is making home spaces unique through rural art painting done by an artist. Taruga Urban Claps the artist to your home to manifest your choice on the wall. The company has a network of mural artists across Spain. Buyers can watch an artist live bring the mural to life in their home while sipping wine and the 3D printer builds their food.

🗞️ Global Updates

• We’re all familiar with YouTube mid-roll ads that cut off a great part in the video. It appears that Snap wants to apply this format to Stories. Let’s see how things go.

• Brands are struggling to protect their trademark and likeness from being exploited by NFT creators. Hermes and Nike are both trying to figure this out.

• Google Analytics ruled to be illegal by French regulator.

• YT on a spree to make its platform creator friendly.
