As soon as she gatecrashed as the outgoing, emotional, and the violin with the worst first impression to Kousei, his entire monochromatic world started to acquire color.

How Kaori Miyazono develops the story of Your lie in April

Kaori Miyazono is a prime example of a strong, outgoing, growing woman who treats music like her necessary air for survival, and her instruments as her best friend without whom her life is meaningless. She was suffering from the rare genetic disease, Friedreich's Ataxia, or bone marrow failure. Kicking her illness into the corner, she rose to her aspiration to live inside people's hearts.

She is a dominant expressive woman who exudes her feelings and emotions through her playing the violin, and she refused to blindly obey the classic composer, which led to her being disqualified from competitions but it won people's hearts. Since her entry into the series, she symbolized the height of spring, where everything is colorful and lively, brimming with happiness.

A colorful influence that had entered Arima Kousei, whose surroundings were dull in color, like the keys of the piano. Kaori is seen to be drawn towards Watari, Kousei's best friend, who seems to get along with her as well. But as the series develops, readers get well acquainted with the chemistry between Kaori and Kousei and their blooming friendship and interdependence as well.

She nagged him for being her accompanist for her violin competition which he denied, stating his auditory impairment as he loses his hearing in the middle of his playing, but she keeps nagging and pestering him, asking him that "It doesn't matter if we can't give the best performance, all that matters is giving their best effort and making places in people's hearts."

The first hint that viewers get is when Kaori requests a stop at the Totsuhara University Hospital after Tsubaki gets down at the previous stoppage. The second is when she gets hospitalized after fainting in the first wing of the auditorium, where she and Kousei perform as the soloist and an accompanist.

Fainting out of the blue was a big shock, but we get over it as soon as she is discharged and comes back to school. Her playful character provides comfort to the viewers that makes her a memorable character who influences our understanding of life and what it means to love ourselves.

After that, she is shown to bring a lot of medicines with her to Kousei's competition when she is shown to freshen in the washroom. Next is when she is down with illness again when she faints and knocks her head to a railing to her room, and is hospitalized, just as she was practicing for their gala concert.

She reassures her friends that it was not a big deal and when they leave, the nurse comes in, asking if her friends had gone so they could start their treatment. We get a peek at what really happened, that her legs went numb that caused her to fall, and when she gained her senses a little, she saw blood gushing out of her head which made her faint in shock.

These instances make a confusing and hurtful uncertainty of Kaori's life in the hearts of the viewers as they begin to doubt if she is going to make it while hoping that she does.

When Kousei gets the letter from Kaori's parents that they requested to give him, he reads and everything is revealed how Kaori's life really had been. She frequently visited the hospital due to her illness, and when she saw her parents crying in the waiting room, she understood that the days of her life were counted. She begins living on her own terms, choosing to have fun with her life without any restrictions and to try one lie to get close to the person she loves.

She lied about liking Watari but she, in fact, loved Kousei since she saw him playing for the first time in his life and it touched and stirred something deep in her, which led her to play the violin. She saw how tightly knitted the friendship between Tsubaki, Watari, and Kousei was and chose to lie instead of approaching Tsubaki as she knew the latter was very protective of Kousei because she had been with him through thick and thin. Her demeanor and personality stirred Kousei and made him change his monotone life into a colorful one, and exude those colorful feelings through his playing.

Kaori Miyazono is a journey for all the viewers, as she teaches the very basic things about life, love, friendship, and music in her own twisted and beautiful way. Her weirdness and quirks stay with the people who watch her grow and make everyone glow along with her, and she leaves an everlasting effect in the minds of the viewers. She is the character who is so hard to move on from, and viewers keep coming back to her again and again.
