Pokemon Scarlet / Violet

Hi, issue #271 of Switch Weekly here with your weekly Nintendo update.

It's not often I get to write about something which happened today, but this is one of those days! A rare occurance: Here's the 15-minute 'Pokemon Presents' presentation from earlier today, which not only highlighted updates for a range of Pokemon titles, including Arceus, but also announced Gen 9 games coming later this year. Dubbed 'Scarlet' and 'Violet' - the next mainline entries look to take elements of Arceus and expand upon them to what looks to be a full open world adventure. Considering we've just had Arceus arrive last month, this announcement felt soon, but on reflection it will have been three years since Sword and Shield by the time these arrive. Either way I hope the Game Freak team find time to get rest, as they sure are kept busy.

The Pokemon Company made it known via PR that in an effort to be 'senstive' to current events today's presentation was not heavily promoted (and it was unable to be postponed). They referred to 'major world events' - which is PR speak for the outbreak of war in Ukraine.

On that point — I've made a donation to Save the Children and the journalistic efforts of the Kyiv Independent. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

There's around 30 games coming to the Switch next week, including Triangle Strategy. Full list of games, along with my description of each, is below for you.

Thanks for reading, and I'll catch you next week.

Cheers,
Chris โœŒ๏ธ

โ–ถ Pokémon Presents - February 2022 —About 15-minutes long. The Scarlet/Violet reveal at the end had us all thinking it was a Detective Pikachu announcement, right? Here's a written run-down of everything announced if you'd prefer.

Nintendo acquires long-running partner studio SRD Co Ltd — They've been working very closely for the best part of 40 years now. As such, this rare acquisition makes a ton of sense.

11 years ago, Nintendo made a controversial decision that changed gaming forever — That decision? The humble Nintendo Direct. Over a decade on it's now an absolute powerhouse in Nintendo's marketing arsenal, but when it started it was a different beast, approached with a certain level of skeptism.
