Switch Weekly - Bird and Bear land on Nintendo Switch
Guh-huh. Web version | Unsubscribe Hi, here's issue #266 of Switch Weekly with your Nintendo round-up. Hope you're well. This week Microsoft surprised us all, announcing plans to acquire troubled gaming giant Activision Blizzard for a staggering 70 billion dollars. Now, this happened earlier in the week, so I'll spare you from a cold take you've no doubt heard elsewhere — but I will leave you with this nugget to ruminate on: Nintendo's current market cap is 61 billion dollars. ๐ So, in Nintendo news - and almost to little surprise - the new Pokemon game, out on Friday, has leaked. In fact a fair amount of folks already have retail copies too... Laura Kate Dale (who you may remember had a ton of accurate Switch details prior to the NX reveal) has played the game, and shares some initial impressions here. There's just shy of 30 games landing on the Switch, the aforementioned Pokemon game being the highlight of course. Catch you next week, ๐ฎ Currently Playing — Paper Mario, Grindstone (iOS) Don't worry, Microsoft probably isn't going to buy Nintendo - Here's why — They've tried before... Thomas Whitehead // Nintendo Life โถ LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga — Gameplay overview — An excellent six minute trailer here along with an actual launch date (April) for this long-awaited LEGO game. Sadly, as I tweeted here, my enthusiasm was somewhat diluted upon reading this report from Jack Yarwood at Polygon highlighting the crunch culture behind the game's protracted development. I know crunch has been a long-standing issue at TT, as such I was hopeful that the numerous delays this project has seen were a sign of change. Alas, no. LEGO // YouTube Pokemon Legends: Arceus' marketing has been sparse and I love it — If you've done your best to avoid the (seemingly customary at this point) leaks, then you may not know a great deal about the new Pokemon game releasing next week — and that feels somewhat by design. When you compare with the share-all approach afforded to Sword & Shield, the marketing efforts for Arceus feel notably lowered. Ben Sledge // The Gamer Japan’s press have played Pokémon Legends: ‘It’s an experience like no other’ — Ahead of reviews next week, here's a taste of what to expect from some hands-on via the Japanese press. Chris Scullion // VGC REVIEW Windjammers 2 — "what a sequel should be. Updated visuals, added bonus games, and new characters, all without ruining the core game play". Here's another review of this arcade 'air hockey' from IGN. Chris Dunlap // Gaming Age REVIEW Shadow Man Remastered - A rich, inscrutable world to get lost in — "A bit of an interesting paradox; it's difficult to recommend [..] to those who haven't played the game before, while — at the same time — if they do wish to check it out, this is absolutely the only way we'd recommend doing so". Here's another take from Nintendo World Report. Stuart Gipp // Nintendo Life PREVIEW OlliOlli World hands-on: New skateboarding game sticks the landing — This is one of my most anticipated releases of the year, and thankfully this recent round of previews are all rather positive. It's out next month. Here's another preview from George Foster at The Gamer. Rob Leane // Radio Times Switch N64 update suggests Nintendo could be improving emulation Andy Robinson // VGC Square Enix should be ashamed of the Kingdom Hearts release on Switch 2022 is shaping up to be one of video games' biggest ever years Christopher Dring // gamesindustry Fire Emblem games that could use an Echoes-style remake Benny Regalbuto // Superjump The resurrection and reinvention of Telltale Games Wesley LeBlanc // Game Informer How video games brought together the victims of a tragic fire accident Patrick Klepek //Vice It's time for a new type in Pokemon Eric Switzer // The Gamer
