40FIREFIGHTERS have now extinguished a blaze in a training building of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in the southeastern Ukrainian city of Energodar after Russia forces seized control of it over night; the plant produces 20% to 25% of Ukraines power. 

6NUCLEAR REACTORS make up Zaporizhzhia, it is one of 15 active nuclear plants in Ukraine but also the largest nuclear power plant in Europe and the 9th largest in the world. Ukraine’s foreign minister warned a disaster there could be 10x that of Chernobyl. 1 of 6 reactors is still functioning but the other 5 were now disconnected or cooling. 

33PEOPLE have been killed during airstrikes in the Ukrainian city of Chernihiv and another 18 wounded; 5 rockets reportedly stuck apartment buildings, a hospital and a pharmacy. 

22CIVILIAN deaths have been added to the official tally by the UN taking the toll from 227 yesterday to 249 this morning. The UN also reports an updated figure of 553 injured. According to Ukrainian sources these figures are a gross underestimate.

1BY 1 silenced genes are being awoken by researchers using an AI-designed protein which when combined with CRISPR technology can disable the chemical switch keeping them turned off. The approach can control gene activity without permanently changing the genome and will allow scientists or understand the role of individual genes in various stages of development.

66ftWIDE crater could be caused today on the moon as a rocket - believed to be from a 2014 Chinese launch - is expected to strike the surface at 9,300kph; sending debris flying hundreds of miles. The impact will take place on the far side of the moon, not observable to telescopes. China has denied its rocket is responsible. 

1tbOF DATA has potentially been stolen from chipmaker Nvidia by a ransomware group calling itself Lapsus$. The hackers have now given the company an ultimatum which they must answer by today: allow Nvidia's graphics cards to mine cryptocurrencies faster or face the imminent release of the company's crown-jewel source code.

22kMILES above earth is the current record for United States space missions under the much publicised U.S Space Force. Now the Air Force Research Laboratory is extending that range by 10 times and the operations area of the United States by 1,000 times, confirming it will begin patrolling the far side of the Moon. 

40kYEAR OLD Stone Age Chinese innovations of culture have been unearthed in the region and they show the earliest known evidence of ochre - a natural clay earth pigment - processing in eastern Asia. Processing ochre for use in rock art, adhesives, sunscreen and insect repellent, requires knowledge and skill, and is considered a marker for modern human behaviour.
