40FIREFIGHTERS have now extinguished a blaze in a training building of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in the southeastern Ukrainian city of Energodar after Russia forces seized control of it over night; the plant produces 20% to 25% of Ukraines power. 

6NUCLEAR REACTORS make up Zaporizhzhia, it is one of 15 active nuclear plants in Ukraine but also the largest nuclear power plant in Europe and the 9th largest in the world. Ukraine’s foreign minister warned a disaster there could be 10x that of Chernobyl. 1 of 6 reactors is still functioning but the other 5 were now disconnected or cooling. 

33PEOPLE have been killed during airstrikes in the Ukrainian city of Chernihiv and another 18 wounded; 5 rockets reportedly stuck apartment buildings, a hospital and a pharmacy. 

22CIVILIAN deaths have been added to the official tally by the UN taking the toll from 227 yesterday to 249 this morning. The UN also reports an updated figure of 553 injured. According to Ukrainian sources these figures are a gross underestimate.
