Mayor Adams ends pandemic mandates in New York City amid concern he is rushing. [Read free here]
New York Times (Moderate Left) • Factual Grade 79% • 6 min read

In New York, students will no longer have to wear masks indoors at public schools starting Monday and people will not have to show vaccination proof to visit restaurants, gyms and venues like movie theaters. Masks will still be required on public transit, and at Broadway theaters and some other places.
    ...
[Adams' critics] argue that the proof-of-vaccination requirement has helped keep New Yorkers safe, especially given how many international visitors the city gets, and that vaccination rates vary widely among schools. Mr. Adams has said he would reinstate restrictions if cases were to soar again. Nearly 87% of adult New Yorkers are fully vaccinated.
    ...
The mayor’s announcement coincided with Los Angeles County’s lifting of nearly all of its indoor mask and vaccine-verification requirements. California rules still require vaccination proof or negative test results to enter large indoor events. Dallas and Houston made masks optional at schools, and Chicago is expected to do so soon.

Should governments prioritize domestic manufacturers in their purchases?

Context: President Biden raises threshold federal government must meet in domestic purchases.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - I’ll first acknowledge the biggest “tax break” Americans have received in history has been the cost savings to American consumers from offshore manufacturing of our products. However, this is a sub-part to a more holistic strategy. There are hidden costs that have been ignored: 1. Offshore manufacturing to China (the principal sourced country) strengthens the financial firepower of our biggest adversary, while weakening our financial and supply chain security. 2. Supply chain reliability and speed to market quickens dramatically if sourcing were to occur across the Americas, rather than Asia. 3. Most importantly, offshore manufacturing to Asia ignores the incredible opportunity to source across the Americas... which would enable our closest neighbors to prosper in “China-fashion.”

No - It sounds like a nice idea. But anything that warps the market should be avoided if possible. Making domestically produced products artificially lower in price is a ...
