Battleground - 2022 Redistricting Update

The once-a-decade redistricting process is entering its sunset phase. Only four states have yet to approve new congressional districts, bringing the nationwide map-drawing process to a close. Now 14 states face challenges to their newly drawn districts for either racial or partisan gerrymandering. (In addition, courts in three states have already settled gerrymandering cases.) Once every state has drawn new districts, I will zoom out and look at how redistricting has changed the political dynamics of the US House. (Early reports are already seeing mixed results: districts may have gotten fairer on a partisan basis but largely failed to address problems with racial inequities.) Until then, I’ll continue reporting on newly drawn districts alongside developments in gerrymandering cases as they make their way through state courts. A full list of my gerrymandering coverage is contained below! Current Status of RedistrictingThis newsletter is supported by readers like you! This means that more than 200 congressional districts have been reviewed in court challenges across the country. Active Gerrymandering Cases
