Running an airline is a tough industry, with many companies either folding shop or merging with rivals to survive. Being an airline passenger isn’t a walk in the park, for a litany of reasons that anyone who has been in an airport ever can easily enumerate.

Landline, a four-year-old, Fort Collins, Colorado-based transportation startup, thinks it has struck on a way to create a better experience for both airlines and their passengers. The big idea? To distribute the check-in process by processing people in many smaller hubs, closer to their homes, well before they get to their departing gate.

If all goes as planned, its customers will eventually get dropped off just a hop, skip, and a jump from the plane they’re about to board.

Of course, big ideas often start with the execution of smaller ones, and right now, Landline, founded by Stanford grad David Sunde, is largely a bus service, transporting people from regional hubs to major airports. It sprung up after Sunde spent nearly four years, on and off, with the aviation outfit Surf Air, where he saw some of the challenges of regional airline carriers, from their expensive operations to pilot shortages.

Still, Landline already does more than just punch tickets for passengers. It has already struck partnerships with American Airlines, United Airlines, and Sun Country Airlines, whose passengers unknowingly book travel with Landline, which operates as a white-labeled service. As far as travelers are concerned, they’re hopping onto an American Airlines bus — if that’s the provider — replete with AA programming and appointments, and that ride to the airport from the hub nearer their home is simply built into the overall cost of their ticket.

Meanwhile, because of these partnerships, Landline is able to check in both the passengers and their luggage so when they reach the airport, the last remaining step is walking through airport security.

Enerkem, a 22-year-old, Montreal, Quebec-based company that says it produces advanced biofuels and renewable chemicals from waste, has raised $255 million in new equity and convertible debt funding. The Spanish energy company Repsol led the round ($170 million, of which $75 million is in equity), joined by Suncor Energy, Monarch Alternative Capital and Avenue Capital Group. More here.

Netomnia, a three-year-old, Gloucestershire, England -based fiber broadband startup that's focused (for now) on underserved locations in the U.K., has raised £295 million in funding led by DigitalBridge Investment Management, with participation from Advencap and Soho Square Capital. SamCart, an eight-year-old, Austin, Tex.-based sales platform aimed at content creators, has raised $82 million led by Eldridge, with participation from TTV Capital, Fin VC, the George Kaiser Foundation and eGateway Capital. Axios has more here.

Viz.ai, a six-year-old, San Francisco-based AI-driven platform designed to increase the speed of diagnosis of acute and emergent diseases, has raised $100 million in Series D funding co-led by Tiger Global and Insight Partners. Other backers in the round include Scale Venture Partners, Kleiner Perkins, Threshold, GV, Sozo Ventures, CRV and Susa Ventures. FierceBiotech has more here.

E-Zinc, a 10-year-old, Toronto, Ontari-based developer of zinc-air batteries, has raised $25 million in Series A funding led by Anzu Partners, with participation from BDC Capital, Toyota Ventures, Eni Next and earlier investor Energy Foundry. BetaKit has more here.

Overwatch Imaging, a six-year-old, Hood River, Ore.-based company that develops airborne imaging systems for piloted aircraft and drones, has raised $11 million in Series A funding. Squadra Ventures and Shield Capital co-led the round, joined by L3Harris Technologies and Bridger Aerospace. GeekWire has more here.

Aclarity, a five-year-old, Hadley, Ma.-based outfit that develops and deploys proprietary modular electrochemical systems for the on-site destruction of contaminants such as PFAS in wastewaters, has raised $3.3 million in seed funding. Investors include DCVC, MassVentures and UMass Maroon Fund. Forbes has more here.

Finkargo, a year-old, Bogota, Colombia-based import finance platform that provides credit underwriting, has raised $7.5 million in seed funding co-led by Quona Capital and MAYA, with participation from OneVC, FlyBridge, Pear VC, Latitud and Angel Ventures. More here.

Flow Club, a year-old, San Francisco-based subscription-based startup that lets users host remote coworking sessions designed to help people get into a productive flow state, has raised $5 million in seed funding led by Worklife Ventures. ImaliPay, a two-year-old, Nairobi-based financial services startup that caters to gig workers in Africa, has raised $3 million in seed equity and debt funding from Ten 13, Uncovered Fund, MyAsia VC, and half a dozen other backers. TechCrunch has more here.

Peeba, a two-year-old, Hong Kong-based startup that says it has built a B2B wholesale online platform that connects independent retailers across Asia with unique brands around the world, just raised $4.2 million in seed funding led by Headline Asia. Revea, a two-year-old, San Francisco-based outfit that describes itself as a "precision skincare" company, has raised $6 million in seed funding. Alpha Edison led the round, joined by Ulta Beauty, WaldenCast Ventures, GISEV, Verlinvest and Kathaka. More here.

SeeMetrics, an 18-month-old, Tel Aviv, Israel-based cybersecurity management platform for CISOs, has raised $6 million in seed funding from Work-Bench, 8VC, AGP, Essence VC, K5 Global and Verissimo. TechCrunch has more here.

Trustap, a six-year-old, Cork, Ireland-based peer-to-peer payment platform, raised $3.4 million in seed funding led by MiddleGame Ventures, with participation from Act and Atlantic Bridge. More here.
