BUY LIST UPDATE: Not adding today. Inflation numbers come out tomorrow & China’s producer inflation for March was higher than expected. The producer price index was 8.3% as compared with a year ago. Expectations were 7.9%. Chinese markets down 3%.

TRADING TODAY: Expect some heavy market posturing ahead of the inflation numbers tomorrow. Last I wrote about this the analyst consensus was 8.4%. Now it’s 8.5%. Worse still China’s producer inflation for March was higher than expected. The producer price index was 8.3% as compared with a year ago. Expectations were 7.9%. Chinese consumer inflation also rose to 1.5% YoY, 1.2% over expectations. This data was enough to drive Chinese stocks down 3%. Do I expect a red day today? Yes. It is probable. If the inflation numbers turn out to be 8.6% or higher, all bets are off folks. 8.5% is bad enough, but a 0.7% increase would make things very interesting even for the most hedged of investors, intuitions, & money managers. This means heavy portfolio adjusting for big money, & that’s bad for retail. You don’t want to get caught up in that craziness. Such a prospect will definitely mean heavy handed Fed action.
