For my redistricting recaps, I’m slowly building an outlook of the upcoming 2022 U.S. House races. Each state will include a link to its respective post as well as a headline count of how many incumbents or open seats the state adds to the chart below. Once I’ve covered all 50 states’ new maps, we’ll have a full House seating chart that displays each party’s outlook in the midterm elections, tallying the number of incumbents as well as both open and competitive seats.

Maine: +2 Dem incumbent (1 in GOP leaning district)

• Maine’s congressional district boundaries only saw minor changes. Rep. Jared Golden (ME-02) is one of only seven Democratic House members that represents a district Donald Trump won in 2020.

Connecticut: +5 Dem incumbents (1 swing district)

• After both the state legislature and the state advisory commission failed to meet state deadlines, the state Supreme Court was responsible for approving new district boundaries. The Connecticut Supreme Court selected Nathanial Persily to draw new congressional districts, the exact same person chosen to draw the state’s districts in last decade’s redistricting cycle.

Rhode Island: +2 Dem incumbents

• As Democrats are once again in charge of Rhode Island’s redistricting process, they made minuscule changes to district boundaries.

Hawaii: +2 Dem incumbents

• Hawaii’s redistricting process is governed by a nine-member commission of appointed politicians. The new congressional districts are almost identical to the previous ones.
