Last night I went to a party for Tina Brown’s new book The Palace Papers. I love Tina, I think she is a genius, and I was excited to celebrate her at a proper literati party. It’s nice to get out of the house twice a year and drink a white wine with a bunch of media elites. I thought I’d have one Sauvignon Blanc and head back home to watch Real Housewives with my dog.

She cuts her fruit like a freak, though

We’re just about six weeks away from the Queen’s Platinum Jubbly Weekend commemorating her 7,000 years on the throne and getting our menus set. My own A-list soiree (British-adjacent superstar Nicola Peltz will be there) is going to feature a three-tier serving platter, each level consisting of a different British delicacy: Welsh rarebits, quail and spotted dick finger sandwiches, and bananas. We’re going to be eating just like the Queen, and it’s going to be lit.

But of course the Queen doesn’t eat a banana like you common sluts, or so says royal chef Darren McGrady in his book Eating Royally. Per the New York Post, The Queen has one of her indentured handmaidens place the banana, fully sheathed, on a piece of bone china and then she delicately slices the top and bottom off, prises open the skin, and eats small morsels of it with a fork. Sort of like how you’d eat a baked potato, but less rewarding.

“Science” has uncovered an unfortunate Faustian bargain

What would you give to win an Oscar? If we could peer into the minds of the Hollywood wannabe-elite I’m sure we would find many haunting answers to that question, but for me, I would give nothing; I do not want one unless it comes with money, which I do not think it does. And thank god for that. Because what some Oscar winners have given to earn that muscular gold-plated bronze statuette … will haunt you to your core.

The story begins in 2001, with a paper in the medical journal Annals of Internal Medicine. There, lead author Don Redelmeier, a senior scientist at the Sunnybrook Research Institute in Toronto, wrote about his team’s research into the life spans of Academy Award winners, losers, and “ultra-losers” (a term not used in the study, but which I am using to describe those actors who have appeared in Oscar-nominated movies, but have not been nominated for the award themselves).

Redelmeier compared the (at that time) 1,649 Academy Award nominees and found that, compared to the losers and ultra-losers, winners (having either intentionally or unintentionally entered into an unfortunate Faustian bargain with the Motion Picture Academy) tended to suffer through an additional 3.9 years of miserable earth-bound existence; on average they lived to 80, compared to the losers’ 76. The question has hung in the air since we caught a glimpse of his future wife in a flash-forward to Mother’s death day, and now we know: it’s his childhood ex-wife whom he has pined over for the entire series. Oh, unless I should have added in some suspense there. In that case, Actor Brother’s future wife is … let’s see!

The actress/podcaster/business mogul is back in the studio, where she belongs

Kate Hudson wears many hats. She’s one of the many actors who has an Apple TV+ show no one’s ever heard of, the co-founder of Fabletics, the owner of King St. Vodka, a podcast host, and now, finally, a recording artist.

The Something Borrowed actress shared an Instagram post of her rocking out in what appears to be a rehearsal space, with the caption, “Finally realized it’s time to say f#%! it and saaaannngg!!!!! #albumincoming #myikigai 🎶 🎤.”

Any Hudsonista worth her salt knows that our girl loves to sing. I myself have known it since 2009, when she sang “Cinema Italiano” in Rob Marshall’s despised musical Nine. Say what you will about that movie, but Hudson’s big number has been stuck in my head for over a decade. She killed it. Continue reading
