Following the bombshell leak of a draft opinion that shows the Supreme Court poised to overturn landmark abortion-rights precedent, the chief justice vowed to investigate. There appears to be no path through the Senate for legislation to codify the rights outlined in Roe v. Wade. Speaking of the Senate, Sen. Susan Collins—who was a key vote to confirm Justice Brett Kavanaugh, and who still had the support of abortion providers afterward—says such a ruling would be “completely inconsistent” with what he told her then.

However the court rules, polling on Americans’ views on abortion finds clear majorities still support legal abortion, with about two-thirds of people agreeing with the Roe v. Wade decision.
