New Old Age - Our democracy is on fire
Our democracy isn’t fragile. Our democracy is completely broken. If Democrats fail to hold both houses in 2022 we won’t have to worry about 2024. The American experiment will have failed. On January 6, 2021, there was an armed insurrection against our government incited by the person voted out of the Oval Office. His actions were encouraged and participated in by members of Congress, many of whom were trying to overturn the results of a free and fair election. These turncoats are still roaming free, running our government into the ground. How is it possible that traitors who are actively seditious and no longer believe in American democracy are still allowed to be sitting senators and representatives? Powerful old white men are wrecking democracy with impunity, cheering each other on across poisonous right-wing media. Republican Governors Ron DeSantis of Florida and Greg Abbott of Texas are committing crimes against humanity every day. Playing by the rules no longer exists because the Republicans burnt the rulebook to a crisp. Democrats have to step up right now because if they don’t, there won’t be another free and fair election. Democrats won’t be able to win in states like Arizona, Georgia or Pennsylvania because Republicans will outrule them. Democrats need to be loudly calling for the criminal prosecution of the previous President and his supporters. Not impeachment, conviction. The GOP today is no longer a political party like we understand it. It’s a white nationalist movement. It’s led by a man who incited a deadly terrorist attack on our Capitol to violently overturn an election. To forcibly overturn the will of the American people. A man who’s moving his chosen appointees into place for the midterms. And getting ready to steal the Presidency in 2024. If you liked this post from New Old Age, why not share it? |
