That jittery feeling. Venture funding and deals are projected to drop for the second consecutive quarter in 2022. Investors are scaling back investments in the private markets as the public markets tumble. At this pace, global funding is projected to decrease by 19% from last quarter and 25% year-over-year. At-home care. Deaths due to opioid overdoses rose to record highs in the US amid the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. But, paradoxically, the pandemic has opened up greater access to medication and support for the estimated 2.7M Americans with opioid addictions. Telehealth regulations relaxed in early 2020 have allowed doctors to prescribe medications that help treat opioid dependence without an in-person visit. The rule change has created opportunities for companies looking to meet the needs of this population. One virtual addiction treatment provider now serves over 10,000 patients (up from just 100 in early 2020), and it raised one of the largest early-stage telehealth deals of 2021.

Peace of mind. Cyber insurance premiums have grown significantly in recent years. In 2021, standalone cyber coverage jumped 92% year-over-year to top $3.1B for the US. Insurers have bumped up rates amid a surge of ransomware attacks as they adapt to pricing cyber risk. Companies are increasingly looking to cyber insurance policies to protect themselves in case of an attack, in addition to investing directly in cybersecurity technologies to prevent attacks.

Style on a budget. The secondhand apparel economy is growing at a rapid rate as consumers in the US increasingly embrace used goods. Driving this expansion is the growth in resale, which is primarily concerned with high-quality items. While marketplaces like thredUP and The RealReal have led the trend, brands and retailers are investing in resale-as-a-service and recommerce tech solutions to launch their own resale channels.
