Daniel Enriquez, 48, a Goldman Sachs investment researcher, was shot once in the chest at about 11:42 am on Sunday as he rode a Q-line train from his home in Brooklyn into Manhattan. Police later said that the attack had been unprovoked, and that the gunman was still at large.

Official statistics show that fatal attacks on New York’s public transport network continue to be rare, with serious crimes on the subway and buses accounting for just 2% of the city’s total. Four people have been killed in foul play situations in the city’s 24-hour transit system this year – the same number as the same period last year.
    ...
The perception of a crime problem has been heightened by recent cases in the subway system, including a woman killed when she was pushed in front of a train in January, and the attack last month in which 10 people were shot, though nobody died. Rider figures are still at about 60% of their pre-pandemic numbers, creating a circle in which the eeriness of unpacked subway platforms discourages people from returning.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - I already did. I was born and raised Roman Catholic. After going to catholic school for 18 years, I learned some of the worst horrors of what the church has done throughout history. Combined with a priest being caught in relations with a student at school, who was only moved to Canada, I decided I could no longer support the church. I now consider myself broadly non-denominational Christian. I believe the same things, I just no longer have faith in the Church and the pope.

No - I believe it is better to push for change within an organization than it is to leave it. E.g., the church is changing considerably on issues like having...
