Should low-level soldiers be tried for alleged war crimes?

370 votes, 42 comments

Context: Ukraine sentences young Russian soldier to life in prison in first war crimes trial.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - Sad all around, and it’s believable that the young soldier could’ve been bullied into following the criminal orders, and believable he’s regretful, but the fact remains that the 21 yr old pulled the trigger. “I was ordered to do it” was a common defense of Nazi officials at various levels during the Nuremberg trials.
