What Is GraphQL: A Beginners Guide in 1-Minute
GraphQL has taken the developer world by storm. It is a query language that allows developers to interact with APIs in a more efficient way. In this issue of Experience Stack Newsletter, we will give you a brief overview of what GraphQL is and how it works.
GraphQL is a query language for your API, and a server-side runtime for executing queries using a type system you define for your data. GraphQL isn’t tied to any specific database or storage engine and is instead backed by your existing code and data.
GraphQL is a layer on top of your APIs that lets you say exactly what you want and only have to talk to the server once:

GraphQL overcomes the following issues with traditional API endpoints:
  • Disorganization: GraphQL endpoints are built on user-defined schemas that make it clear which fields are available and how to use them.
  • Multiple Trips to the Server: You tell GraphQL exactly what you want, and it figures out which endpoints to use to get it. This is all done in one trip to the server.
  • Excessive Data: GraphQL only gives you the fields you ask for, even if the original endpoints give you more.
