Switch Weekly - Your Nintendo Update
We call 'em Autumn Chaps over here. Web version | Unsubscribe Hi, Chris here with you Nintendo update — it's issue #288 of Switch Weekly. The big things to know this week: Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes is out, and the reviews seem really good. We got a Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Direct (linked below). Fall Guys hit the Switch, and not gonna lie, it's my new obsession. Another week has gone by without official word on a 'proper' Direct. Speculation remains of course, with some thinking that when it does turn up it will be focused on third-party titles. We shall see. Nearly 30 games coming to Switch across the next seven days. The full list is below for you as ever. Thank you so much for reading. ๐ฎ Currently Playing — Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, TMNT: Shredder's Revenge (Xbox) REVIEW Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes — This new musou games "feels much more like a mainline entry in the franchise than a spinoff" and is described as by "far and away the most ambitious 'Warriors' game ever made, and so much of that ambition pays off in phenomenal ways". High praise indeed. Digital Foundry have also carried out their usual technical analysis on this one, comparing it to the earlier Warriors game, Age of Calamity. Hayes Madsen // Inverse โถ What the reviews say about Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes — Here's my review round-up featuring some key quotes of what the critcs had to say about this Fire Emblem spin off. It's not really the sorta thing I'm in too, but this seems like it's doing some interesting new things, and has fleshed out the narrative side of things. Reviewed really well across the board. BTW, if you ain't subbed to my channel yet, please consider doing so — I'm at ~350 subs, and need around 1,000 before YouTube will considering me a partner. Switch Weekly // YouTube โถ Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Direct — Not the Direct we were expecting, but hey — here's 25 minutes going through what to expect from the next entry in Monolith Soft's action role-playing series. With the game launching so soon (next month) I know many opted to skip watching this one for fear of spoilers. One thing of particular note: the game is getting DLC next year. Nintendo // YouTube Roe v. Wade reversal hurts game developers — How the reversal of abortion rights in the United States' will impact the gaming industry. Several studios have spoken out on this highly emotive matter — From what I can gather Nintendo have not yet made comment. I reached out to Nintendo for their word, but did not hear back in time for publication. Bryant Francis // Game Developer REVIEW Fall Guys — This game is a real blast, particularly with a squad of friends. I played a fair bit on Switch this week, and its perfectly playable, but the performance is a bit rocky — as this review notes. I'll be playing on Xbox here on out. Scott McCrae // Nintendo Life REVIEW ElecHead — I'm glad this one is reviewing well, as it looked right up my street. "a delightful breath of fresh air" Neal Ronaghan // Nintendo World Report REVIEW Sonic Origins — "simply more of the same, which is both its greatest strength and weakness". Seems about $15-20 overpriced for what is I reckon. I'll add: The developer isn't happy with the finished product. Mitch Vogel // Nintendo Life REVIEW AI: The Somnium Files - Nirvana Initiative — "This time-hopping murder mystery boasts a compelling story, along with some great plot twists", resulting in "an incredibly eccentric game, bursting with vibrant characters, mind-bending puzzles, and an abundance of strange sci-fi detours". George Yang // Polygon REVIEW Roller Champions — Has potential, but the reviewer notes some issues and performance problems that hold it back: "can’t really recommend the game on Nintendo’s console in its current state". Scott McCrae // Nintendo Life REVIEW Steve Jackson’s Sorcery Yvonne van Geloven // Ladies Gamers REVIEW Firegirl: Hack 'n Splash Rescue DX Willem Hilhorst // Nintendo World Report Chris Pratt says his Super Mario Bros. voice is ‘unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario World’ — Not sure what my takeway from that headline is meant to be...is he saying it ain't gonna sound like Mario? ๐ Marc Malkin // Variety How Shredder’s Revenge captures the essence of classic TMNT arcade games Andrew Webster // The Verge Neon White isn’t just for ‘freaks,’ it made me into one Ana Diaz // Polygon The bleak, beautiful humanity of Citizen Sleeper Harry Mitchell // Overlode Pokémon Crystal unlocked my Trans girl heart Anya L. Archer // Wired
