California’s Budget Boom

Inflation is taking a bite out of everyone’s budget. But financial relief will soon be on the way to California residents.

Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed California’s budget for 2022-2023, which includes one-time direct payments to qualifying residents. The additional round of stimulus checks was made possible by a massive budget surplus of nearly $100 billion.

The payments, known as the “Middle-Class Tax Refund” will vary from $350 to $1,050 for more than half of the state’s residents. Payments will be disbursed starting in October and will continue through early 2023. The state is also implementing a diesel tax holiday to help manage rising gas costs.
