Saving at the Gas Pump During the Summer Travel Season

The long holiday weekend is nearly here. If your celebrations involve hitting the road, you might be wincing at the thought of just how much you’ll end up spending at the gas pump

The good news is that the national average price of gas dropped to $4.89 on June 27. It’s a welcomed reprieve from the national average topping $5 for the first time ever earlier in the month. But the cost of a gallon of gas still remains close to $2 higher than last June.

We all could use some savings at the gas pump. Consider these tips to help you manage higher gas prices:

Use gas apps to find cheap gas near you. These apps will show real-time prices at nearby gas stations. GasBuddy is a popular example.
Take advantage of grocery store rewards programs. Doing so means your next major haul at your favorite grocery chain could save you 10 cents per gallon of gas.
Buy gas with a rewards credit card. If you can responsibly manage your credit, start paying at the pump with a cash-back credit card. Every penny counts.
