Preparing your data in Tableau

In our first two recommended courses we’ve taught you how to build an interactive dashboard and how to analyse data in Tableau but what do you need to do in order to get your data ready for analysis?

In day 3 we take you through the concepts and techniques that make it really easy to clean, transform and prepare your data ready for analysis in an automated and repeatable way.

In this course you’ll learn how to bring data together from different sources, how to clean it to remove unwanted data and improve the accuracy of your analysis and then how to transform it into what you need and finally size the data to your requirements by removing unnecessary data and creating any additional information you may need for your project.

• Learned how to review a data sources to identify your data preparation requirements and steps

• Combined data from multiple sources and file formats

• Used Tableaus built in functions to your clean data and remove errors in a couple of clicks

• Used custom calculations, grouping, fuzzy matching and splitting to clean and sized your data further

• Corrected common spelling errors and grouped together data

• Used joins, unions, aggregations and filters to add additional data and transform your existing data

• Investigated and resolved issues with your data

• Used wildcards to filter out unwanted records

• Automating data preparation into one click and and connected to your cleaned data
