Welcome to all our new subscribers! ButWhatFor? is about anything, as long as it’s interesting. Thanks for joining!

As roughly 40% of you have probably noticed by now, I did not send out an email on Friday last week. The same percentage will be aware that my last two emails were a set of polls that I intended to use as a way to re-oriented this newsletter to be something more interesting to my readers.

However, the polls also gave me a few weeks to step away and think about what I really wanted out of writing a newsletter. Interestingly, I eventually landed on an answer I wasn't exactly expecting.

I don't really think I want to write emails every week... at least right now.

I enjoy the idea of writing something, but no matter how many weeks I have done it, every week I treat it more like a chore than something I want to do.

Partially, this is a realization that I just don't have the time. I let that lack of time turn into the Friday emails - these were originally a way to stay in touch between the longer articles that require me to consume a number of books / articles / videos and then write a well-put-together piece with quite a bit of thought.

However, over time, the Friday emails became the entirety of the newsletter because that was the easier thing to do. I was just trying to "survive" for one more week, with other things - which included hobbies I enjoy - competing for my time.

And that isn't a good spot to be.

Consequently, I have decided to shut things down for now. I am sorry about that. All my old posts will stay online, and anyone who remains subscribed will be notified if I ever start writing here again. I have also turned off all supporting subscriber recurring payments.

I really do appreciate all the support over the last year or so since things really started to exceed my expectations in terms of viewers and subscribers. The fact that so many of you read what I wrote week after week is amazing, and I hope you'll forgive me for having to bow out for the time being.
