(Personally, I recommend this insightful article by our own Richard Newby). But while we wait for more Secret Wars secrets to spill out, there’s plenty more Marvel news to be had.

Today we have an update on the other Avengers film announced at SDCC, The Kang Dynasty, plus, a new report hints at why the X-Men are notably absent from Marvel’s next few years of programming.

Marvel finds a director for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty

Marvel Studios is in its Multiverse era. And leading them to the finish line is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton.

Two days after Comic-Con International in San Diego, where Marvel Studios formally announced most of its theatrical and streaming television plans for the next three years, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Cretton has been named as director for the fourth Avengers movie, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

New images shed light on Mars’ deepest canyon

Mars is a planet of extremes. Not only does it have the tallest known volcano in the Solar System, but it also has the deepest canyon — almost 10 times longer and five times deeper than the Grand Canyon on Earth.

This week, the European Space Agency released new images of the planet from its Mars Express orbiter.

Why Marvel might be holding off on the X-Men

So, where are the X-Men? Mutants seem to be totally absent from Phases 5 and 6 of the MCU, leading to some understandable confusion among Marvel fans.

If one new rumor is to be believed, there may actually be a legal issue preventing Marvel from bringing mutants into the MCU.

Marvelvision podcast co-host Devin Faraci claimed in a recent episode that the contracts 20th Century Fox signed with the stars of its X-Men films may still be in effect. Specifically, Faraci claims that Marvel may not be able to recast any of the characters that appeared in Fox’s X-Men movies before 2025.

If true, fans may want to prepare themselves for the possibility that it’s going to be several years before the X-Men arrive in the MCU.

Hubble makes a rare capture

One peculiar galaxy in the Boötes constellation has a lot in common with the sluggish celestial body that enchanted astronomers two weeks ago.

In a newly-published Hubble Space Telescope image, a hefty collection of mass can be seen contorting the galaxy’s light to create a sort of space mirror.

Watch trap-jaw ants bite at 300,000 frames per second

Trap-jaw ants can slam their jaws together with extraordinary speed, with the tips of their mandibles racing at up to roughly 120 miles per hour. How they can perform such attacks without destroying themselves has long been a mystery to biologists.

To shed light on the secrets of this insect's lightning-fast strikes, researchers secured the ants in front of a high-speed camera filming at 300,000 frames per second. The results were stunning.

Remembering the terrible ‘90s Captain America movie

Thirty years ago, we got the first major superhero motion picture in American theaters to kick off the ’90s: Captain America.

Starring Matt Salinger (the son of author J.D. Salinger) as Steve Rogers, the film’s plot crams together Captain America’s World War II origin story against the Red Skull with a present-day story riddled with Mafia paranoia and a pro-environmentalist message.

Comic book fans will recall that the ’90s were not a kind decade for superhero movies. They were generally cheesy at best, bland at worst, and mixed with some bad writing and crappy visuals. Captain America may be the first Avenger, but this Captain America is a hallmark ’90s dumpster fire.
