Maersk started its corporate VC, Maersk Growth, in 2017. This was a strategic decision, so Maersk could engage with startups for corporate innovation. Additionally, as the biggest end-to-end logistics company, Maersk Growth sees investing in climate tech as a way to decarbonize supply chains.

Maersk, the parent company, is a supply chain and logistics company. The team has expertise in and invests in pain points the industry faces. This includes asset management, robotics, warehouse automation, and solutions that address decarbonization (e.g. eliminating scope 1,2 and 3 emissions, alternative fuels).

Maersk Growth has a standard diligence process (calls with the team and customers, data room, etc.), both quick and transparent. Being an active investor, the team also connects with relevant business partners within Maersk so that the portfolio management team can hit the ground running immediately after investing.

What would make Maersk Growth consider deviating from its typical criteria?
Maersk Growth is disciplined around its investment mandate as an early-stage investor within the supply chain space. But, at the same time, they can deviate opportunistically, as it makes sense strategically for the business (pain points and opportunity).
