Surprise medical costs. Stock market volatility. Social Security’s uncertain future.

The list of barriers sitting between savers and a happy, healthy retirement is long, but now — on top of everything else — we have to worry about inflation, too. In fact, inflation is now the No. 1 obstacle standing in the way of Americans saving for a comfortable retirement, according to a recent Schwab survey. With consumer prices jumping 9.1% in the 12 months ending in June — the largest increase since 1981 — it makes sense that savers are worried.
