What were the results of a Kansas referendum on abortion?

  1. Highly-rated - last 48 hrs
The defeat of a Kansas ballot initiative shows that red-state voters don't necessarily favor abortion bans.
Reason (Moderate Right) • Factual Grade 83% • 7 min read

The amendment that Kansas voters rejected would have overturned a 2019 decision in which the Kansas Supreme Court said the state constitution "allows a woman to make her own decisions [...] decisions that can include whether to continue a pregnancy."
    ...
Registered Republicans outnumber registered Democrats by nearly 2 to 1. After a campaign in which each side spent around $6 million, a poll of "likely voters" conducted just before the election found that 47% planned to vote for the amendment, while 43% planned to vote against it and 10% were undecided. In the event, 59% of voters opposed the amendment.
    ...
Kansas has not reported the overall turnout yet. But [the 54% turnout reported in the state's most populous county] is nearly unheard of in a primary election. The results suggest that opponents of the amendment were especially motivated and/or that late deciders were inclined to vote no. The [vote] is significant in practical terms, since Kansas is located near several states that already have enacted abortion bans.
  1. Different political viewpoint
    It’s not just Kansas—voters nationwide are pro-choice.
The Nation (Left) • Factual Grade 83% • 3 min read
  1. Selected long-read
Out-of-state Democrats pay millions to influence Kansas election because abortion is on the ballot.

Should the pursuit of al-Qaeda still be a priority of US defense policy?

Context: Death of al-Qaeda leader leads to concern over potential Taliban hospitality to terrorist group.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - Prior to 9/11, Al Qaeda enjoyed a safe haven in Afghanistan, under the protection of the Taliban, who controlled the country and the Pakistani government which provided intelligence and aid to Al Qaeda. [These are] exactly the same conditions that exist today. While it is positive, but long overdue, that Bin Laden and others have been killed in the years since 9/11, many, many others have grown into adulthood with a searing hatred of the US. [...] After WWII, our government was fairly effective in reconstituting Germany, Italy and Japan. Whereas, last year, our government surrendered Afghanistan to our adversary and left a pile of weaponry, mass hatred and thousands of Afghan graves.

No - Ongoing bombings and assassinations simply creates more enemies and leads to more killings. Unless they attack the US again, the US should leave al...
