💸 Start Your Online Empire with a $1k Site
Nano Thought If you're building businesses, you're better off building in niches that will continue to grow. You'll benefit from tailwinds and make more money. The future is definitely SaaS, newsletters, and websites. More and more of our lives are moving online, so internet businesses are a great place to be for the next decade (and beyond). I also love running online businesses because you can have a completely remote team that works from anywhere. Margins can also be great with little or no overhead or crazy capital expenditures.
This Week’s Nano Flip Opportunity I'm going to cover a type of website I usually don't write about in this newsletter: A starter site. A starter site is a website that's built out and ready to go, but has very little revenue ($14 in July). Basically, you're paying for the development/design work that's already been done. When buying a site with such low revenue, you don't just value the site multiple of cash flow. Instead, I'd look at "replacement cost". How much would it cost you to hire someone to build a similar site from scratch? You could also add in some time value premium of buying the existing site, since creating a new website would obviously take more time than just buying the existing site. If you are looking to get your start in online businesses and don't mind getting your hands dirty, there are plenty of opportunities like this. The first thing that I would do if I bought this site: Update the existing content and add a lot more. Currently, the copy on the website doesn't make a whole lot of sense. You could quickly clean it up so that the value proposition is much clearer to visitors when they land on the site. SEO-wise, the work has only just been starting. The current owner has 37 articles up but hasn't seen many results. The DA is 8 and there are 0 first-page rankings. With a few hours of content creation, I think I could make huge leaps in the SEO of this site. Another change I'd make: Fix the affiliate links. Some of the affiliate links on the website are broken. Fixing those up would be a quick way to create some value and increase revenue. Here is a summary of my hypothetical plan for buying and fixing this site:
This type of site can be a good opportunity to learn the ropes and experiment. Not high-risk since it's a low price and there's little revenue. In other words, the only way you can go is up with a site like this! Let's look back at a Builders Build episode from March. On this episode dive in and break down Digital Assets, a topic that’s near and dear to all 3 of our hearts. We cover everything from niche content websites to social media profiles to newsletters to SaaS’ to domains. (As well as a litany of other things we love in the digital asset space). Thanks for reading! I'll hit your inbox next week with another breakdown of a website flip. Thanks from the Nano Flips team (James) P.S.
