This week’s money mood: ’Cause you’re hot then you’re cold️️

Economically speaking, two big things happened last week:

1.	The stock market closed out its best month of gains since 2020, and …
2.	We officially learned that the US economy shrank two quarters in a row — which many people would say is the definition of a recession.

So … are sunny skies ahead, or not? And if we’ve met the traditional definition of a recession, why haven’t most economists decided that we’re in one?

Those are good questions, and I’ve done my best to break them down in the article below.

What’s happening out there?


•	Nothing’s official yet, but all signs point to the Biden administration extending the federal student loan moratorium again. (It’s currently set to expire August 31.)
•	So many millennials bought houses during the pandemic that the overall group’s average net worth more than doubled. 😮
•	“Sustainable funds are essentially stickier”: Morningstar’s most recent data shows that they had net inflows in the second quarter (people put more money in than took it out), even as all funds overall had outflows.
•	A little happy news: At least one locally owned grocery store in Kansas has found rising national prices are pushing their customers to buy more local foods.
•	Talk to the floatie. 👙
