The most recent victim, Naeem Hussain, had attended the funerals of victims Muhammad Afzaal Hussain, 27, and Aftab Hussein, 41, on Friday before heading to the Islamic Center of New Mexico for a post-service meal. [The men were not related]. Naeem Hussain had taken the oath of citizenship just a month earlier. He was found dead Friday evening.
    ...
Naeem Hussain, who was in his mid-20s, and the other two men were “regulars” at the Islamic center, [Tahir Gauba, director of public affairs at the Islamic Center] said. As of Sunday, authorities said they had not yet determined a motive for the killings.
    ...
Detectives are also probing whether the November killing of Mohammad Ahmadi outside a business he ran with his brother was connected. (Gauba said Ahmadi was not a regular member at the Islamic center.) Albuquerque police had said the three earlier killings were done in a similar fashion — “ambushed with no warning, fired on and killed” — but declined to say whether Friday’s killing followed the same pattern.

Should governments offer tax credits for people who buy electric vehicles?

538 votes, 62 comments

Context: Inflation Reduction Act includes tax credits for electric vehicles.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - In general, electric cars sort of sell themselves. They are faster, require less maintenance, and save you hundreds per month in gas. I just upgraded from a PHEV to a full EV and honestly wish I had done it years ago. But they cost $. Government incentive will help.

No - Whenever you lower the cost of something via subsidy, you incentivize more use of that thing; you don't disincentivize the purchase of...

Unsure - At this point, when most EVs are being charged on grids fueled by coal, they are less eco-friendly than just keeping the car you have. We have no way to di...
