Starlink's second-generation satellites will be able to broadcast service using part of T-Mobile's mid-band 5G spectrum. The service will allow users to text, send MMS messages, and use messaging apps even when traditional services are unavailable. It will be included for free in T-Mobile's most popular plans. Subscribers will be able to access the service using their current phones without special equipment.
TikTok owner ByteDance quietly launches search app Wukong in China, where Google is banned (3 minute read)

ByteDance has launched a search engine with no advertisements in China. It was launched without announcement within days of Tencent Holdings shutting down its Sogou search app. Wukong offers different search results to China's dominant search engine, Baidu. Its main page has promoted propaganda content. Wukong's search results tend to prioritize ByteDance's other products.

Baidu has released its first quantum computer, Qian Shi, and an all-platform quantum hardware-software integration solution, Liang Xi. Qian Shi can integrate hardware, software, and many applications. It offers a stable quantum computing service to the public with 10 qubits of power. Liang Xi provides access to various quantum chips via mobile app, PC, and cloud. It will allow users to create quantum algorithms and use quantum computing power without developing their own quantum technology.
SpaceX's 'Mechazilla' lifts 33-engine Super Heavy onto the launch pad for the first time (2 minute read)

SpaceX moved Booster 7 onto its orbital launch mount at Starbase using Starbase's Mechazilla launch tower on August 23. It is the first time the booster Has been put on the launch pad with all 33 engines. SpaceX is preparing for more static fire tests, which will put the company closer to performing its first-ever orbital flight of Starship. The orbital flight could take place as soon as next month. Heroku announces plans to eliminate free plans, blaming ‘fraud and abuse’ (3 minute read)

Heroku will eliminate all of its free services starting November 28. It will start deleting inactive accounts and associated storage for accounts that have been inactive for over a year on October 26. Heroku's security teams are spending an extraordinary amount of effort to manage fraud and abuse of its free plans. The company plans to announce a student program in September.
New patent may reveal how Apple could pull off a no-notch iPhone 14 Pro (3 minute read)

The US Patent and Trademark Office has published a patent application that seems to show how Apple will implement a pill-shaped cutout and a spot for the selfie cam on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. The notch on current iPhones houses a lot of technology, including a selfie camera, an infrared camera, a depth sensor, and a dot projector.
