E-comm Conversion Rate Optimization Tips

Let's get a couple of things squared away -- 

• Generally speaking when talking about a conversion for ecommerce we're talking about a purchase event.
  
  
• Average ecommerce conversion rates are between 2.5-3% so if you're in this range then you should give yourself a high-five.
  
  
• We find our conversion rate by the following calculation: 
  • (Number of Conversions / Total Visitors) X 100

Once you've done the hard work to drive loads of traffic to your site the last thing you want is to lose sales because of something simple... 

I once made a BUTTON COLOR change to a landing page that boosted conversion by 15%. 

It's not always so cut and dry but there are some best practices... Here are a few of them:

✅ Tip 1 -- Offer Free Shipping

According to a consumer trends report 66% of customers expect shipping to be free for every online purchase. Thanks Amazon... 😂

Additionally, shipping costs tend to be the largest driver for cart abandonment.

Consider offering free shipping for sales over a certain dollar amount. This way you can protect your margin.

✅ Tip  2 -- Use an Abandon Cart Software

You can use a tool like CartStack or just use the built in options from your ecomm platform. 

The Shopify app store has several options as well. 



✅ Tip 3 -- Let Customers Check out as Guests

Forcing users to register is adding one more step to the checkout flow. CRO is just as much about psychology as it is about reducing friction in the user experience.

✅ Tip 4 -- Have a Compelling Offer

The key components of a compelling offer are:

• Clarity on value proposition
• Discount or premium offer
• Urgency 
• Strong CTA

Here are a couple of examples. 

✅ Tip 5 -- Nail Your Headline

This may sound obvious but your headline is just as important as your offer when it comes to driving sales. 

The keys to a great headline are using simple and clear language, an emotional hook, convey instant benefits, use sensory or action words.
