Today is Ellevest’s second annual Financial Wellness Day. It’s a whole day dedicated to the idea that when women are better off financially, the world becomes a better place: fairer, healthier, more prosperous.

Last year on Financial Wellness Day, we shared the results of our inaugural Ellevest Financial Wellness Survey. Above all else, it showed that women were stressed about money — so much so that it was hurting their overall health.

Well … a lot has happened since then.

Inflation. Gas prices. Interest rates. The end of Roe v. Wade.

Just so much.

So this year, we wanted to go even further. We wanted to create a means to gauge the state of women’s financial health today with a single, comprehensive, measurement. A measurement we — and others — could use to talk about women’s financial health with a common language and find paths forward together.

So we built one. It’s called the Ellevest Women’s Financial Health Index. And well, the result isn’t great. In fact, by this measure, women’s financial health is worse than it was during the depths of the pandemic (!).

But there’s also good news: The data shows that women are taking action around their financial health. So to dig deeper, we ran the Ellevest Financial Wellness Survey again, and we found that yes — more women than ever are prioritizing their financial wellness. Plus so much more.
