I’ve explored quite a few products over the years—either ones I built, or products I considered building.

I found that when it comes to acquiring new customers, most SaaS are playing one of two games:

Products where every customer is switching from something they’re already heavily using 👉 Need to overcome switching costs (less about money, more about time, effort, and the disruption you’re asking them to be OK with).

Products that customers are using for a new use case they haven’t done (much) before 👉 Need to overcome cost of behavior change (or find customers who already actively changing their behavior).

Both types can “work”. Both types can “fail”.

There’s no easy path.
