Effective Friday, October 7, Our Human Family will be returning to Medium. Technically, the original Our Human Family publication never left and still contains a wide range of excellent essays. We simply stopped publishing there.

Thank you for standing with us and by donating your writing to OHF Weekly over the past year and a half. Unfortunately, the subscription model, hours required to produce a quality weekly newsletter (way more than you’d imagine as opposed to publishing via Medium) coupled with the challenge of finding writers willing to essentially write for “free” (an idea we have always detested), and the limited exposure of OHF Weekly as an independent publication have proved to be unsustainable.

Moving forward—

  • As originally set forth, all writers retain copyright of their work.
  • Your published works be available at OHF Weekly through March 15, 2023.
  • If you’d like to publish your OHF Weekly articles in Our Human Family (on Medium)—great, we'd love to have you! We have a following there of 1,800 readers ready and waiting to dive into your work! Just copy, paste the story with photos, captions, 3 tags, and submit them the regular way on Medium.
  • We can’t import your stories to Medium, because then OHF would earn money on your article.
  • All contributors will still receive tax-deductible donation receipts for articles donated to OHF Weekly in 2022 at the end of the calendar year.

You guys really are the best. We can’t thank you enough for trusting us with your work. We hope the work we’ve created together is work you can be proud of. Certainly every article that helps to end oppression and support equality is important. BTW, those OHF Family Tree interviews are freaking awesome self-promotion pieces. You owe it to yourself to get all the mileage you can out of those—on Medium, your own site, and wherever.
