GeekWire Summit recap: Tech and civic leaders share insights and vision for the future

Some highlights from the event: 

• Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell said his city still has its mojo, but he is concerned about the impact of remote work on the city’s tax revenue. Harrell also talked about public safety and his desire to use a controversial gunshot detection technology.  

• Venture capitalists expressed some optimism about the recent slowdown in funding levels, noting that startups will have more time to focus on fundamentals and are experiencing less pressure.

• We hosted the season three finale of our Elevator Pitch competition, as Katherine Sizov, CEO & co-founder of Strella Biotechnology, creators of sensing technology that predicts the ripeness of produce, beat out three other entrepreneurs on stage.

• OceanGate founder and Chief Submersible Pilot Stockton Rush took us beyond the Titanic, with a look toward future deep-sea frontiers.
