Gabby Petito's parents file $50M wrongful death suit against Utah police.
ABC News (Moderate Left) • Factual Grade 84% • 6 min read

The lawsuit alleges that the Moab officers failed to notice "obvious signs" indicating Petito was the victim of domestic abuse and intentionally sought out loopholes to avoid enforcing Utah's domestic violence law, which removes discretion from officers investigating domestic violence incidents.
    ...
Moab police questioned Petito and [her boyfriend Brian Laundrie] on Aug. 12, 2021 [two weeks before Petito last spoke with her family] after a 911 caller reported seeing a "gentleman slapping the girl." Petito told police, "I definitely hit him first," and that he grabbed her face, scratching her. Petito told police she suffered from severe anxiety. Police labeled the incident as a "mental/emotional break" rather than a domestic assault.
    ...
[The lawsuit] also claims the Moab Police Department failed to properly train its officers in evaluating domestic violence situations, among other allegations. The city of Moab said it plans to defend itself. "The attorneys for the Petito family seem to suggest that somehow our officers could see into the future based on this single interaction," the city said.

Context: Fed announces another large rate hike.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

No - We have supply-side inflation (not producing enough goods), not demand-side inflation (people desiring too much stuff), so increasing the interest rate won't help inf...

Unsure - The idea behind the rate hikes is to make business expansion more expensive to cool spending and curb inflation. It solves the wrong problem. ...
