All, happy Thanksgiving! Hope you're able to spend it with loved ones. We're taking the rest of the week off to eat, drink and be merry (and also catch the Warriors later, which is why we're shooting this off right now). 

When we get back, we'll resume planning our January 12 event in San Francisco, which is going to be *amazing* and you should not miss. As mentioned a few weeks back, Sam Altman has agreed to come with his brothers Max and Jack. There is obviously a ton to discuss with all of them (including when GPT-4 is coming and whether AI generated the perfect Thanksgiving dinner for the family). 

We are also thrilled that Alfred Lin of Sequoia Capital will be joining us for the evening; like many others, Lin has had a rough November; we'll talk about what went wrong at FTX and dive into Sequoia's evolution -- and whether it makes sense. 

Again, we're not done yet. In the meantime enormous thanks to the team at the early-stage firm Felicis for raising its hand to support us as our exclusive partner in the evening. We'd like to think we're one of the iconic companies it looks to back. (Haha just kidding half kidding ba-dum-bump.)

Tiger Global Management marked down the value of its private funds by almost a quarter this year, contributing to a $42 billion decline in assets, one of the industry’s biggest ever. In addition, some of the previously private but now-public companies held by Tiger Global’s venture unit lost value, according to Bloomberg's sources. More here.

Elon Musk insisted today on Twitter that FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried was invited, along with all public shareholders of Twitter, to roll his stake in the outfit over when Musk took the company private but that Bankman-Fried never did this (though it isn't clear why). More here.

Prosper, the 17-year-old San Francisco peer-to-peer lending tech outfit whose products include personal loans, credit cards, home equity products, and investment offerings, raised a $75 million round led by Neuberger Berman. Swell Energy, an eight-year-old startup based in Santa Monica, Ca., that helps consumers pay for solar panels and batteries, raised a $120 million Series B round. SoftBank and Greenbacker Development Opportunities were the co-leads. Canary Media has more here.

Celebal Technologies, a seven-year-old Indian startup that operates a software consulting business, raised a $32 million from Norwest Venture Partners. More here.

Fizz, a Palo Alto-based social media platform exclusively available to college students, has raised $12 million in Series A funding led by NEA with participation from Lightspeed Venture Partners, Rocketship VC, Owl Ventures, Smash Ventures and New Horizon. TechCrunch has more here.

Ramani, a two-year-old startup based in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania that provides inventory management systems, procurement, and point-of-sale software to a network of micro-distribution centers, raised a $32 million Series A round in both debt and equity. Validic, a 12-year-old startup based in Durham, S.C., that helps health care providers provide remote care for chronic pain conditions, raised a $12 million round led by Kaiser Permanente Ventures, with Arkin Digital Health, Green Park and Golf Ventures, Ziegler, Gore Range Capital, Greycroft Partners, and SJF Ventures also piling on. The company has raised a total of $30.4 million. More here.

Flourish Fi, a four-year-old San Francisco startup that licenses customer engagement and loyalty technology to banks and fintechs, raised a $2.3 million seed round. The deal lead was Magma Partners, with additional participation from Remarkable Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners Scout Fund, Canary, Seedstars, Kadmotek VC, I Am the Fund, Potencia Ventures, Amplifica Capital, and Cap Table Coalition. KaiOS, a six-year-old Hong Kong startup that has developed a feature phone operating system, raised a $3.4 million round from Finnfund. The company has raised a total of $82.4 million. TechCrunch has more here.

Saile, a four-year-old Kansas City startup that uses AI to create sales bots, raised a $1.35 million seed round led by Valor Ventures, with KCRise Fund also pitching in. More here.

Segmed, a three-year-old Palo Alto startup that aims to provide clinicians, researchers, and developers with quick and easy access to real-world medical imaging datasets, particularly for use in training or validating AI algorithms, raised a $5.2 million seed round. The deal lead was Nina Capital, with additional capital provided by iGan Partners, M3 Inc, Mighty Capital, Expeditions Fund, and Alchemist Accelerator. The company has raised a total of $10 million. Early Light Ventures, a four-year-old, Baltimore-based early-stage venture outfit that funds B2B startups, has secured at least $10.6 million toward a second fund that it hopes to close with $15 million in capital commitments. TechCrunch has more here.

Vista Equity Partners is kicking the tires of Coupa Software, a software company that helps businesses track their spending, says Bloomberg. Acquisitive Vista also recently snapped up Avalara for $8.4 billion and said it plans to acquire KnowBe4 for $4.6 billion. More here.

HyperloopTT, a nine-year-old, Los Angeles-based hyperloop transportation company, agreed to go public at an implied $600 million pre-money equity value via Forest Road Acquisition Corp. II, the second SPAC formed by former Disney execs Tom Staggs and Kevin Mayer. Even if this deal somehow makes it over the finish line, we'd run in the opposite direction. Zapp Electric Vehicles is merging with a blank-check company to become publicly traded on the Nasdaq at a post-money valuation of $573 million. Zapp says it will use the proceeds from the merger to bring its long-awaited i300 high performance, seated city scooter to market. The i300 was initially revealed back in 2018, with promises of deliveries beginning in the end of 2019. Then Zapp, like many other companies, ran up against a global pandemic that halted production and deliveries, giving the company time to reevaluate is approach to production, says TechCrunch. Amazon plans to eventually release 12 to 15 movies a year in theaters at a cost of $1 billion or more. It's not going to happen right away, but it's the biggest commitment to theatrical movies by an internet company to date, reports Bloomberg.
