EcomCrew - [Crew Review] Fake Amazon discounts

EcomCrew Premium will officially launch tomorrow with our biggest sale ever! Those on our waitlist will get a better deal with an additional discount on top of the Black Friday rate. Sign up for the waitlist today—it’s your last chance to do so.

Hey Reader,

A $50 pair of shoes can be priced higher at $100 then “discounted” by 50% to arrive at the original price. It’s not uncommon for business owners to use pricing tactics to encourage customers to buy their products. In fact, a new study reveals this practice by following the prices of vacuum cleaners sold on Amazon.

How bad is it?

Amazon Top Terms

We’re bringing you the top 10 keywords on Amazon from November 6th to 19th. Learn more about the keywords that are making bank on Amazon.

We've been seeing keywords since October that have made their way to the top of our list, thanks to the early discounts and deals of the holiday season.

This week, we found terms like “stocking stuffers women.” Products related to this keyword have offered big discounts causing a drastic increase in sales, selling 83 units per day in the past few days.

Small Business, Big Experience

Imagine buying a jar of peanut butter and then getting to taste the same peanut butter through a vegan taster menu evening prepared by a top chef at no extra cost.

This Black Friday, Amazon UK is doing that with their “Small Business, Big Experiences” program. In order to promote its small business partners, the marketplace is offering a limited number of buyers to experience products in a unique environment. There are currently three participating brands for the program: Superfoodio, Ankyu, and Fizzy Fuzzy.

Customers can buy products from these stores, and a few will get to experience the products in a special environment. For example, a few Fizzy Fuzzy customers will get the chance to spend a day at Grand Hotel Birmingham, where they will create their own bath bomb, which will then be followed by a reflexology massage, guided meditation session and afternoon tea—not a bad perk for purchasing toiletries.

A Different Kind of Shopping Experience

Ever dreamed of shopping in a diamond-shaped mall in the middle of paradise?

Well, now you can—and you don’t even need to leave your house to do so.

Avatly, the world’s first e-commerce metaverse fashion mall, has recently been launched, and customers can now virtually try on clothes and accessories from their featured boutiques (and even get to walk a runway after). This is an upgrade from the usual product listings that feature only photos and videos. Customers can buy items both for their avatars and themselves.

Augmented reality is the future of e-commerce, especially for fashion and furniture brands. Because of this, cryptocurrency may prove more valuable and beneficial to shoppers in the near future. Avatly itself uses a token called AVA, which uses the BNB Smart Chain.

Reviews, Uncovered

Fake reviews have long been a problem for both buyers and sellers alike. While Amazon does take its own steps in curbing fake reviews, the government of India decided to help with the cause.

Earlier this week, the Indian government released a framework that will help put a stop to the paid, biased, and dishonest reviews that are prolific in most online marketplaces accessible in the country. This framework is supported by major e-commerce sites such as Amazon, Flipkart, Google, and Meta, which were part of the committee that helped the government come up with the standards.

Under this new framework, e-commerce companies will have to disclose the methodology of giving star ratings to products and services and to set up review admins who can filter out fraudulent reviews. In order to make it easier for consumers to determine if a site is following the standards, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) will give out a certification to compliant companies.

Reviewers will need to be verified, and sites are required to include the publishing date and star rating. These changes will be implemented starting November 25, which happens to be Black Friday.

Meanwhile, in the United States, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) earlier this year has announced its plans to explore rulemaking to combat fake reviews.
